Rain lashed the erstwhile united district, inundating low lying areas in Kamareddy district headquarters since last night. Some schools remained closed as water had entered the campuses in both districts.
The district received an average rainfall of 17.7 mm with Kotagiri mandal recording the highest at 42.5 mm followed by Morthad (40.9 mm) and Nizamabad rural and Kammarpally (34.8 mm). The least amount of rainfall was recorded in Mupkal mandal (2.3 mm).
Meanwhile, since the Babli reservoir project in Maharashtra is full, around 30,000 cusecs of water is being discharged by lifting two out of 11 gates into the Godavari for 7 hours. The water released reached Kandakurthi, the entry point in the State, and about 1.5 to 2 tmcf of water is likely to flow into the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) by Tuesday.
At present, there is 6.7 tmcf in the SRSP as against its total capacity of 90 tmcf. Inflow into the Godavari is moderate, said the authorities.
