Fortnite Addiction Lands 9-Year-Old in Rehab Center

Fortnite Battle RoyaleA U.K. couple had to send their 9-year-old daughter to a rehab center to help her get rid of her Fortnite addiction. Fortnite: Battle Royale is a free-to-play survival video game developed by Epic Games.

Ever since its launch, players have become hooked on it, but so far none of them has complained about having an addiction problem. The video game has been endorsed by athletes and other celebrities that can’t seem to get enough of the game.

The title is especially appealing to young players. It started to be pretty obvious that the extremely popular video game might lead to addiction when one female gamer wetted herself instead of going to the bathroom.

According to the British newspaper The Mirror, the girl’s parents gave her an Xbox One as a gift in January. Over the next two months, the girl was already addicted. The school called her parents to tell them that she had fallen asleep in class and her grades had plunged.

The Girl Refused to Go to the Loo

When the couple asked the girl what was wrong, she became aggressive and defensive. They falsely believed that her hormones might be at fault. What’s more, they noticed that the girl was paying $67 every month for the game via their credit card.

When her father took the console away from her and tried to confiscate it, she hit him in the face.

Eventually, they agreed to let her play Fortnite for one hour during the week and a couple of hours on weekends. The girl’s parents realized that she was addicted to the game when she decided to rather sit on a urine-soaked cushion than go to the loo.

I found her backside was red-raw. She was so hooked to the game she wouldn’t even go to the toilet,

her mother said.

The girls admitted that she was playing the game behind her parents back for 10 hours every night. The family decided to give the girl professional help. A psychotherapist is now trying to help her to break the addiction.
