Body of 16-year-old found, family says she was gangraped, murdered

The family alleged the accused threw the girl’s body into the water tank after killing her to make it look like a suicide.

The family of a 16-year-old girl, whose body was found in a water tank on Sunday, has alleged that she was murder after being gangraped. They have also refused to accept the body until the accused was arrested.

The family alleged the accused threw the girl’s body into the water tank after killing her to make it look like a suicide.

Baytu police station SHO Arun Kumar said that a man from Chawa village on Sunday informed them that his daughter was grazing cattle near the village stadium when a boy took her to an isolated place and raped her. He later took her to another place where his friends gangraped her. The girl’s father alleged that the accused killed her after the sexual assault and threw the body in the water tank.

“We recovered the body from the tank and sent it for an autopsy. After the postmortem, we tried to hand over the body to the family but they refused to take it, demanding the arrest of accused,” the SHO said.

The police officer said that a 17-year-old boy named as an accused in the complaint has been detained. Till the time of filing this report, the family had not taken the body for cremation.
