Kelly Brook slammed for criticising working mums who use children as an 'excuse'

The 38-year-old model is a regular panelist on the ITV show, but today’s appearance sparked a backlash after she waded in to a debate about working mothers.

Kelly confessed her dislike for mothers using their children as an “excuse” to cancel prior commitments, an opinion which quickly lit the fuse of many Loose Women viewers.

“I have a pet hate, and I don’t have children so I don’t always understand,” she admitted.

“But I do work with some women that if they can’t make an appointment or can’t do something, or there is a deadline, some people will always say, ‘Oh, it’s because I have to wash the baby’ or ‘feed the kids’ or ‘I’ve got to do the school run’,”  Kelly said.

Fans flocked to Twitter to share their displeasure following her statement, with one saying: “Kelly the expert in trying to be a parent and juggle a career. How many kids does she have again?”

“Maybe Kelly Brook should try being a working mum before she comments,” another said.

Meanwhile, a third chipped in sarcastically: “Ah. The childless Kelly Brook giving advice to working parents.”

“Why the hell are you asking a childless woman @IAMKELLYBROOK about working parents?!” a fourth asked. “You have no idea what a mother will do for their sick child!”

“I used to think like Kelly Brook about parents organising their lives around children, but the reality is so much harder than you ever imagine,” another Twitter user commented. “16+ weeks holiday a year, illnesses, sports days, prize giving, school shows, etc. You WANT to be there for most of that.”

Kelly soon took to Twitter herself to respond to the tidal wave of criticism which had been thrown her way.

“It’s a debate show so I don’t expect everyone to agree with my options and that’s OK @loosewomen,” she told her one million followers.

“However, my intention is never to upset anyone.

“I work with a lot of working mamas and they are all professional amazing women and never moan,” she added. “They get on with it. I applaud them.”

Some viewers were kinder towards Kelly’s Loose Women appearance, however, with one saying: “I actually agree with what you were saying and I’m a mum of four.”

“It didn’t sound like you were slamming anyone,” a second said, adding: “Well said anyhow!”

Another simply said understandingly: “I 100 per cent guarantee that if Kelly had kids she would have a totally different stance.”

Kelly has been in a relationship with hunky French model Jeremy Parisi for three years and is famous for flashing her voluptuous curves in her career as a model.

She has also worked as an actress, boasting parts in the likes of Midsomer Murders, Piranha 3D and One Big Happy.

Nowadays, she can often be seen showing her her fashion sense as This Morning’s style expert.
