PALM COAST – Florida Hospital Flagler recently recognized registered nurse Crystal Haines with the DAISY award, an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses. Haines is a nurse on the hospital’s medical/telemetry unit.
Haines was the primary caregiver for her grandmother who became a quadriplegic after an automobile accident. Caring for her grandmother led her to nursing school.
A patient’s family member nominated Haines for the DAISY award.
“Crystal kept me informed, explained [my husband’s] care plan and medications, and answered all my questions with kindness and compassion,” the family member wrote in a nomination form for Haines. “I am so grateful and appreciative that Crystal was there for us. She truly deserves this award.”
In recognition of this honor, Haines received a vase of daisies, an award pin, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. Her unit, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
Created in 1999, more than 2,400 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 14 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
