Expect intermittent spells of rain this week in Bengaluru

BENGALURU:Gloomy weather conditions with intermittent spells of rainfall is forecast for Bengaluru over the next week, due to strong south-west monsoon in the region. Though rainfall will be scattered till Thursday, moderate to rather heavy rainfall is forecast for the last two days of the coming week, according to Indian Meteorological Department forecast.

Save Bengaluru Urban district, all districts in the state have recorded excess rainfall during the first ten days of the monsoon. While South-interior Karnataka region has received excess rainfall of 81 per cent during the period, Bengaluru Urban has recorded a deficit of 14 per cent. In the past week, Bengaluru Urban has received 10.49 mm rainfall against an average of 21.40 mm. The Met department forecasts also indicate widespread rainfall in coastal and Malnad regions, even as the intensity of rainfall in other parts are expected to reduce.

The state, overall, has recorded an excess of 71 per cent rainfall between June 1 to 10. Among the districts in the State, highest rainfall was recorded in Udupi district, which received 361 mm rainfall against an average of 254 mm. All the parts of the State have received more rainfall than normal, with North-interior Karnataka, South-interior Karnataka and Malnad regions receiving nearly twice the normal amount. For instance, North-interior Karnataka has received 59.63 mm of rainfall, against an average of 31.90 mm for the period.
