THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The death toll following Saturday’s rain havoc continued with another casualty in Thiruvananthapuram district over the weekend. Sasidharan of Kattayikonam, Sasthavattom, died after stepping on a snapped overhead power line.
The incident occurred at 5.30 am on Sunday when the 75-year-old was walking along a field. The line had snapped in Saturday’s heavy rain and wind. Saturday’s gusting winds brought down numerous trees all over the district and the power supply was hit in many places on Sunday as well. Meanwhile, the IMD’s Thiruvananthapuram centre said the heavy rainfall will continue in the state till Thursday. Fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing out into the sea.
Strong winds mainly from a westerly direction with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusts of 60 kmph are very likely along the Karnataka and Kerala coasts, and over Lakshadweep, the IMD said on Sunday.
“The sea is likely to be rough to very rough over the east-central, west-central and south-west Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas,’’ the IMD said in an advisory.
