RAJKOT: A sub-inspector and a constable of Botad police station were caught while accepting Rs 25,000 bribe on Sunday night. However, two cops including a lady constable fled with their bribe money.

Bhavnagar anti corruption bureau (ACB) officials identified the accused as sub-inspector V B Vasaiya and constable Hasmukh Parmar. Police have launched a manhunt for constable Sanjay Algotar and woman constable Bhumika Makwana who are on the run.

“The complainant alleged that a person had bought his mini-truck, which the complainant had purchased on loan. The buyer had promised to pay the remaining loan amount. However, the buyer did not keep his word, following which the car company issued a notice to the complainant. The complainant then approached Botad police station with a complaint,” said an ACB official.

He added, “Vasaiya offered to settle his case for a bribe of Rs 30,000, which he later scaled down to Rs 25,000.”

The complainant contacted the Bhavnagar ACB through the toll free number, following which the ACB officials laid a trap and caught the accused.
