Born together, they crack JEE Advance together

Among the candidates who have qualified the JEE Advance 2018 in the country this year are two pairs of twins.

Harsh Kumar Raj and Adarsh Kumar Raj, who come from Kharagpur in Saharsa district of Bihar and got all India rank (AIR) 168 and 704 respectively in the examination, took coaching from Career Point institute in Kota. They did their schooling together in Bihar before coming to Kota two years ago.

There was hardly a point in their lives when they were separated from each other, but given their ranks in the JEE Advance, they are likely to get separate IITs.

“It is a very unusual and difficult time for both of us, as we have never been separated in life so far, but now will have to study in different IITs,” said Adarsh, who is younger to Harsh by a few minutes. Harsh said both shared even hostel rooms in Kota during their coaching period.

Harsh plans to seek admission in IIT Delhi, while Adarsh is targeting IIT-Roorkee or IIT-Kharagpur. Their father is a businessman.

Similarly, Govinda Jain and Gopal Jain, who hail from Peelaghat in Odisha, too have lived, studied and now cracked the JEE Advance together.

Govinda, who is elder to Gopal by a few minutes, secured AIR 176, while the latter got AIR 653 in the JEE Advance results declared on Sunday.

“We have studied together from schooling in Odisha to IIT-JEE coaching from Career Point institute for last two years,” said Gopal. “We both dreamt of making into IIT. Finally, we will study at IIT, although may be in separate ones,” he said. Their father is also a businessman.

Shailendra Maheshwari, director, Career Point, said, “It is rare that twin brothers have prepared for IIT-JEE and later cleared the examination together, but these two pairs of twins have made it possible.”
