Guidelines soon for sewage treatment

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to constitute a committee to suggest the guidelines for the treatment of sewage and sewerage waste in the state.
The decision was taken in the meeting convened by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan which raised concern over the way the water bodies are contaminated across the state through sewage and sewerage waste.

The committee will have secretaries of the environment, water resources and local self-government departments and scientific advisor to the chief minister, M C Dathan, as its members.

The committee will have to suggest the options relating to the treatment of these wastes in the urban and rural areas of the state. The meeting was attended by water resources and irrigation minister Mathew T Thomas, local self-government minister K T Jaleel, revenue secretary P H Kurien, water resources and irrigation secretary Tinku Biswal and principal secretary to the chief minister V S Senthil.
