Jacquelyn "Jacky" Louise Gihring, 73, of Garrison, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Jacky was born March 29, 1945, in Vinton, Iowa, to Glenn and Virginia (King) Halstead. She attended high school in Vinton and Hamilton Business College. On Aug. 8, 1970, she married Robert Gihring in Vinton. Together, the couple raised their six children while Jacky helped Bob work the farm and ran de-tasseling crews for Pioneer. She also was a real estate agent for Century 21.
Jacky enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, and going to garage sales to find bargains. Her family always was the center of her life, and she loved hosting large family get-togethers, especially at the holidays.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Garrison; children, Rodney (Martha) Gihring of Des Moines, Shawn Gihring, Jaime (John Rivera) Gihring, Lisa Gihring, all of Garrison, Suzy Gihring of Portland, Ore., and Jonathan Gihring of Garrison; siblings, Terry (Dixie) Halstead of Independence, Mo., Glenda (Ray) Roe of Ankeny, Donna Stevens of Dysart and Rick (Julie) Halstead of Ashburn, Va.; sister-in-law, Cindy Halstead of Marshalltown; stepbrother, Gary Millard of Vinton; three special nieces and nephews, Matt Stevens of Garrison, Merinda Stevens of Pawcatuck, Conn., and Jeremy Koopman of Vinton; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many more loving family and friends.
Jacquelyn was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Don Millard; brother, Kenneth Halstead; infant son, Joseph Gray; and stepbrother, Dean Millard.
