3 coaches of Mumbai-Howrah Mail derail, services hit

Several trains were either cancelled or diverted on the Central Railway after three coaches of 12809 Mumbai-Howrah Mail via Nagpur derailed near Igatpuri station in the small hours of Sunday.

The coaches — S-12, S-13 and pantry car — of  the Mumbai-Howrah Mail at 2.05 am between TGR 1 and Igatpuri before the train entered the platform 2  at Igatpuri on Mumbai division. “There are no injuries to any passenger,” a CR spokesperson said.

The track restoration work began soon after the mishap. The front portion of the engine and eight coaches of the mishap-hit train left the site for Igatpuri at 03.50 am.  At 05.45 am, 9th coach from engine S-13 was re-railed, while the s-12 coach was put back on the rails at 6.35 am.  At 7.05 am, the rear portion of the train (10 coaches) left the mishap site for Igatpuri, the rear portion of the train arrived Igatpuri at 7.15 am

The railway authorities made arrangements to attach three sleeper class coaches at Manmad and 3 general second class coaches at Bhusaval.  “The affected train — front portion and rear portion — was attached at Nasik Road and the train left Nasik Road at 09.15 hrs for its onward journey,” the spokesperson said.

After the mishap, a dozen trains were cancelled, while seven trains diverted. The trains that were cancelled were: 22101 CSMT-Manmad Rajya Rani Express, 22102 Manmad-CSMT Rajya Rani Express, 12109 CSMT-Manmad Panchvati Express, 12110 Manmad-CSMT Panchvati Express, 12117 LTT-Manmad Godavari Express, 12118 Manmad—LTT Godavari Express, 99902 Pune-Talegaon EMU, 99903 Talegaon-Pune EMU, 99810 Pune-Lonavala EMU, 99809 Lonavala-Pune EMU, 51318 Pune-Karjat Passenger and 51317 Karjat-Pune Passenger.

The three trains that were diverted via Trains Diverted via Pune-Daund-Manmad were: 11057 CSMT-Amritsar Express (JCO 9.6.2018), 15645 LTT-Guwahati Express (JCO 9.6.2018) and 12167 LTT-Varanasi Express (JCO 10.6.2018)

The trains that were diverted via Vasai Road-Surat-Jalgaon were: 11093 CSMT-Varanasi Mahanagari Express (JCO 10.6.2018), 12141 LTT-Patliputra Express (JCO 9.6.2018), 15066 Panvel-Gorakhpur Express (JCO 9.6.2018) and 12811 LTT-Hatia Express (JCO 10.6.2018).

Vishal Agarwal, Additional General Manager, along with Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Central Railway and other officials supervised the restoration operation.  The passengers of the affected coaches were adjusted in other coaches.

Sunday’s was the second train derailment witnessed in Maharashtra during the past three months. Earlier, nine empty wagons of a goods train had derailed between Jejuri and Daundaj on Pune-Miraj section March 26 this year.
