Car crashes into Georges Hall home and bursts into flames

A 21-year-old man who allegedly crashed his car into a Sydney house, sending it up in flames, has been arrested in Sydney's south-west on Monday morning.

Firefighters were forced to use a chainsaw to break through a roller door to reach the flames, which had taken hold in the garage in Georges Hall before spreading to other parts of the house.

Three people - a couple in their 60s and their son - were said to be sleeping in the house when the fiery crash occurred on Carnavon Crescent just after 12.30am. Police said those three people were not injured.

One neighbour said it sounded like an "aeroplane crash" when the vehicle careered into the house.

Channel Nine reported the car allegedly drove through a T-intersection approaching Carnavon Crescent before crashing into the garage and catching alight.

Police said the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was held by neighbours until police arrived.

Bankstown police arrested the man and took him to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing. No charges have been laid.

A crime scene has been established at the house, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

More to come.
