Three people are missing after an early morning fire in Chesley.
Some time after 2 a.m. Monday morning, South Bruce County Ontario Provincial Police officers were called to a house fire on Fifth Avenue SW in the small town located about 130 kilometres northwest of Kitchener.
When officers arrived, more than one home was on fire.
Several hours later, three people remained unaccounted for from a home that was destroyed by fire.
Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal and the OPP forensic identification unit are now investigating.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.
Community help
OPP Sgt. Kevin Martin told CBC News the community will help the families affected by the fire.
"My experience up in the smaller areas is that the communities are wonderful. There's volunteers, there's donations," he said. "If everything is lost, they'll certainly need some help."
He also noted the firefighters called out are volunteers and members of the community, helping their own neighbours in some cases.
"We're very lucky in Bruce County to have dedicated volunteers. You have to understand these are family people who have jobs and other commitments who, at the drop of a ping, when that pager goes off, they drop everything, get to the fire hall and try to save lives, fight fires," he said.
