Colleges that served as examination centres for the much-awaited Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), the exams for which started on Sunday, witnessed heavy crowds in the morning hours.

The candidates appearing for the test assembled outside the institutions much in advance in order to play safe with regard to timing. The first day of the TET passed off peacefully with 39,772 candidates writing the exam.

In a statement issued on Sunday, TET convener A. Subbareddy said in the Paper-I held on Sunday, of the total 42,684 applicants, 39,772 appeared for the test in 98 centres.

TET is an entrance exam for teachers mandatory for getting teaching jobs in Government schools from class 1 to class 8.

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao will release the Intermediate supplementary exam result at 12 noon on Tuesday (June 12) at the auditorium of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam.
