Mark June 25 on your calendars to send in your primary ballots. This is an historic primary in which unaffiliated voters can vote in political primaries without registering in a party. And I want to recommend Dr. Karen McCormick for the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2018 midterm election in November.

I'm especially proud to recommend her because she is from Longmont and I have heard her speak about her ideas and goals for service in Congress. She is for many common goals that have been ignored by our current representative in Colorado's 4th Congressional District. His party does not have health care on its agenda. Tops on my list of priorities is making affordable health care available to each of us.

Second, she insists Congress draw back its Constitutional authority to commit to war from the White House. I have heard her say the whole country should go to war along with our military and I'm all for that. It is time presidents stopped misusing their authority as commander in chief to send our military into harm's way around the world.

Third, Dr. McCormick intends to apply sensible financial management in place of the exorbitant and fiscally irresponsible so-called "tax cut" that will boost government expenditures into a $1 trillion deficit annually.

And finally, Dr. McCormick realizes and understands the benefit of renewable energy, especially for counties on our eastern plains.

Since my arrival in the Columbine neighborhood in Colorado in 1976, I have been gerrymandered from districts stretching from Boulder to Colorado Springs to Longmont including Trinidad and Sterling. I want to be represented by someone I know and who represents me and believes in the principles of good government.
