Residents of West 7th Street in Wilmington's Hilltop neighborhood say police evacuated them from their homes because of a bomb scare Monday night.

Police had blocked off the 1500 block of West 7th Street between Rodney and Clayton Streets near St. Francis Hospital Monday night, letting residents back into their homes around 9:30 p.m.

Police bomb squad robots and officers could be seen combing the area and concentrating on a parking lot on the block.

"It is usually quiet on this block," said a resident who identified himself as Trei M. "This is the first time I've seen this many cop cars."

Police Spokeswoman Stephanie Castellani was not immediately available for comment Monday night.

"It was a pain ... I was nervous for my kids," said Rene Stevens, who lives on the block. “I was definitely a little scared. This is a quiet block."
