BENGALURU: A gang of miscreants broke open a Canara Bank ATM at Kammasandra village, near Anekal, southeast of Bengaluru, on Saturday night and fled with Rs 5 lakh cash.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning and an assistant manager of a cash logistics firm filed a complaint in this regard with Hebbagodi police in the evening.

Hebbagodi police said the cash logistics firm assistant manager received a complaint around 9am that the ATM was not working. The official despatched a cash custodian to the spot, who found the ATM kiosk had been damaged and the money stolen.

Police said the assistant manager rushed to the spot and alerted the bank officials about the incident. They verified the documents and found that Rs 5,02,800 had been stolen from the chest of the cash-vending machine.

Bhimashankar S Guled, superintendent of police (Bengaluru Rural) said there was no security guard at the ATM kiosk and it was a major security lapse. The miscreants had changed the direction of the CCTV camera and covered another camera with clothes. “We have summoned the technical expert to collect the CCTV footage. It will take a few days for us to crack the case,” Guled said.
