Upcoming concerts will be Saxy Rob June 20, Randy Velez July 18, the Canal Fulton Community Band Aug.1 and Daniels & Reinhart Aug. 15

NEW PHILADELPHIA A lakeside concert series will debut June 20 at the gazebo on the Tuscora Park boardwalk when saxophonist Saxy Rob performs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. His show is billed as a mix of hits from the 1970s to today and original music.

The new series of free Wednesday evening concerts was created by Sam Hitchcock, Park Place Teen Center director, City Council president and proud member of the New Philadelphia Rotary Club.

Rotary had the boardwalk and gazebo built last year to mark its 100th year. Hitchcock envisioned the gazebo as a stage for concerts featuring one or two performers. He made sure the structure had adequate electrical service for the purpose.

Hitchcock envisioned the small concerts as a way to draw people to the site in the middle of the week. The lakeside structure is frequently used for prom, homecoming and wedding photos.

Pipes Insurance Service is sponsoring the first concert, and Hitchcock's eponymous sound company, the second.

Vocalist Randy Velez will give the second concert on July 18. The Canal Fulton Community Band will play Aug. 1. Daniels & Reinhart will take the stage Aug. 15.

RTY Concessions will offer snack specials at each performance in the Boardwalk Nights concert series. The June 20 special is a hot dog, chips and lemonade for $4.50.

All the concerts will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
