KATHMANDU: Police have shot and arrested alleged gangster Ashok Lama accused of extorting local businessmen, at UN Park in Kathmandu, today.
A police team from Metropolitan Crime Division had approached Lama for questioning his involvement in extortion following complaints from businessmen.
However, Lama denied to be taken into custody and pulled out his weapon forcing the police to open fire, sources said.
Lama was shot in his right leg and is undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital following his arrest.
