A day after results for the Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced (JEE-Adv) was announced, students have been informed about the registration for seats in institutes of their choice. JEE-Adv is the gateway to admission to all the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country.

While eligible candidates can start the registration and preference form filling process from June 15, the first round of seat allocation will take place on June 27. “We will once again conduct seven rounds of seat allotments this year. Hopefully, the seat vacancy at IITs will reduce,” said an official from the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).

The number of students qualifying for IIT admission fell by over 64% this year – from 50,455 students who cleared the mark last year to 18,138 this year. Experts said the main reason for this drop was the fact that not a single question was dropped from JEE-Adv by the examination conducting authority, ensuring no bonus marks were given away to students.

The minimum aggregate score for eligibility to admissions to IIT has been slotted at 126 out of 360 this time for the general category, 114 for OBC-NCL and 63 each for SC and ST categories. According to information shared by JoSSA last week, a total of 11,279 seats are available across 23 IITs this year, almost 300 more than last year.
