James White, 93, died Friday, June 8, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in Wayne Zion Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Pastor Wade Reddy will officiate at the services.
Surviving are two children, John (Jackie) White, Anamosa, and Janet (Drew) Washburn, Loveland, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Rose White, Lisbon; 10 grandchildren, his very special granddaughter, Christa, Cara, Ben, Zach, Gabe, Braden, Nick, Rachael, Robert and Dalton; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elfreda; a son, James O. White; and four brothers, Galen, Darrell, LaVere and Gary.
James Albert White was born July 4, 1924, in Anamosa, Iowa. He was the son of James Hansen and Esther Probst White. Jim graduated from Anamosa Community Schools. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theater during his enlistment. Jim married Elfrieda Wehling on Aug. 31, 1948, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. From 1950 until he retired in 1988, Jim was a lineman for the Maquoketa Valley REC. Jim loved being outside in Fremont or Stone City or up along the Mississippi, north of Prairie du Chien, Wis., fishing, mowing or tinkering. He was a member of the Oxford Junction American Legion and volunteered a lot of time there as well.
