SURAT: Fifty-year-old -Surajdev Singh , a crane operator of
Essar Steel was on his way back home in Sahajanad Society of Singanpore village on Monday morning at 8.00 . Riding his bicycle , he heard a noise of someone shouting for help and saw couple of kids drowning .
Without thinking anything , he flung his bicycle , shoes and whatever he could and jumped in the water. Hailing from Azamgad-Gorakhpur border on the shores of Yamuna river, he was an experienced swimmer.
Without wasting a minute he reached drowning boy and pulled him to the shore with all his might . He returned back to water , and by the time another man Harshad Bhavsar, 47 , an accountant by profession was to his aid.
Singh managed to reach another drowning boy and brought him out with all his might with help of Bhavsar. Mahomad Shaikh and Sohel Pathan were the lucky ones who received a gift from an angle in the month of Ramadan.
However , Akhlad Shaikh and MAhomad Zahid Patida were not so lucky. Singh started the third errand in water and searched for the third boy but could not find him.
Talking to TOI he said, “ I will regret not my life time not being able to save other two . Had I had some help , I would have done so.”
Harshad Bhavsar who aided in the operation said, “ We had nothing no ring , no rope nothing. We wish we could have had some thing . Then may be we could have saved other two lives too.”
Four teenagers had ventured out to weir cum
causeway over Tapi river at Sainganpore to have morning outing and trying to take selfie catching a rope , one went in water and slipped.
Trying to save him one by one all three were in water and were drowning when two were saved and other two lost life. All lived in Habibsha street of Nanpura area of Surat.
