Earl Frank Staton, 86, of Monroe, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margie Rucker Staton. Born in Amherst County, June 2, 1932, he was the son of the late William Smiley Staton and Nancy Diana Hughes Staton. He spent his career in electrical construction and was a member of the IBEW Union, Local 70 and the NEBF. He was a longtime member of Smyrna United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Earl Randall Staton and seven siblings, William H. Staton, Joseph A. Staton, Lorene Staton, Gladys Wright, Massie Staton, Bernard Staton and Kenneth Staton. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia S. Shelor and her husband, Bill; his son, Bobby L. Staton and his wife, Kimberly; five grandchildren, Jacquelyn D. Wilkins, Somhairle V. Wilkins, Dustin E. Staton, W. Randy Staton and Tristen C. Staton; two sisters, Marion Smith and husband, James, and Leana Ragland and husband, Otha Jr.; and one brother, Mac A. "Tommy" Staton. A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2018, at Smyrna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joyce Austin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
