MDC searches for 'violent' inmate mistakenly released early Sunday
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The Metropolitan Detention Center is asking for the public's help finding an inmate who was mistakenly released from custody Sunday morning.
Police say 27-year-old Duwin Perez-Cordova was released from MDC and dropped off downtown near 4th St and Roma Ave NW, where he was last seen.
Law enforcement agencies have been searching for Perez-Cordova to take him back in custody.
An active felony warrant for escape from custody has been issued for him.
Perez-Cordova has several tattoos, including a money sign on his elbow, an Impala sign and “RIP Marcus” on his left arm. He goes by several different aliases including Gilbert/Gilberto Rodriguez, Duwin Perez, and Duwin Cordova-Perez.
Perez-Cordova was being held at MDC since 2017 on several charges. He was also being held on a federal warrant.
He is considered violent and should not be approached by the public.
Anyone with information about Perez-Cordova’s whereabouts is asked to call the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department at 505-798-7000 or 911.
An internal investigation is underway to determine how this mistake happened.
