Arsenal transfer news: Unai Emery has made one signing so far since replacing Arsene Wenger

Arsenal’s only addition so far in the window is the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus.

The Gunners are said to be close to a deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and are also linked with Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu.

Arsenal finished sixth last season, their second successive campaign out of the Champions League qualification places.

Seaman believes with the right additions, Unai Emery’s side can get back into the top four next term.

We need a couple of defenders, dominant defenders and a dominant midfield player

He reckons two new defenders and a defensive midfielder should be the new boss’ priorities.

“For me it (the aim) would be top four,” Seaman told ESPN.

“You’ve got to progress on the season before and we were out of the top four and we were getting left behind by quite a few of the big clubs.

“We need to regroup, have a little restructure of the team and then push on, get into the Champions League again and try and improve on that each season.

Arsenal transfer news: Seaman says Emery needs to sign two defenders and a midfielder

“It’s not going to be easy because the big guns are quite a way ahead at the moment.

“We need steel in the team, we need a couple of defenders, dominant defenders and a dominant midfield player.

“I think the forward side of it, you can leave that alone because we’ve got a lot of firepower there.

“I’m just a little bit worried about the defence and the art of defending.”
