JEE-Adv 2018: Bed-ridden for months, 17-year-old bags All India rank of 356

Students aspiring for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) spend every waking hour of class XI and XII to prepare for the entrance exam. For 17-year-old Advait Kumar, an accident left him off-studies or any other work for a long time last year, affecting his studies. However, not only did he manage to make up for lost time, Advait also managed to score well in his JEE-Adv exam and bag all-India rank 356.

“After a fall, Advait hit his head and was in a coma for some days. Doctors found extradural haemorrhage in his head and there was bleeding in his brain too. He was in the ICU for some days,” said his mother Kavita, a dentist by profession. Advait underwent a series of surgeries to finally gain consciousness and took months to recuperate. “Since it was a head injury, we could not force the recovery so he took his time and finally got back to studies when he felt ready,” added the mother.

It took extra classes on a regular basis in order to catch up for lost time. Not only did Advait attend regular lectures at his integrated coaching institute but also sat with a personal tutor to prepare for the exam. “I’m happy with my score and I hope I get a seat in the electrical or mechanical engineering department of IIT-Bombay,” said the teenager.
