A 75-year-old woman from Victoria, Gozo, died on Sunday evening after falling ill while swimming at Marsalforn.
The police said the woman was assisted to shore by people who realised her predicament,
She was taken to Gozo general hospital, where she passed away.
A magisterial inquiry is under way.
