Thiruvananthapuram: Even before recovering from the troubles caused by total power shutdown on Saturday, several areas in the capital city witnessed power cut on Sunday too as repair works led by the KSEB to restore the electric poles and power lines continued till evening.
KSEB workers of different divisions in the district were on duty on Sunday and worked for additional hours to restore the power supply.

As many as 100 electric poles in Nedumangad and Vizhinjam areas, including a few 18KV line poles, were damaged in the heavy rain and wind.

According to Mohammed Siyad, PRO of KSEB, the board cancelled the leaves and weekly offs of the personnel and have instructed them to turn up for duty to restore power supply in major city areas without causing much delay.

“The workers are going through busy schedules from the past two days. Linemen of all divisions worked till 12 midnight on Saturday and then turned up for work at 7am on Sunday, considering the urgency of the situation. Damages were reported from several parts of the city. Our prime focus is to maintain the 11KV lines and the personnel are working extra hours for the same,” said Mohammed Siyad.

Another KSEB official said that Kazhakkoottam division too witnessed major damages. Many of the places in the rural areas were reconnected to power network by Sunday evening only.

“Since majority of 11KV networks across the city are underground, damages are comparatively less as compared to that of rural areas. More damages have been reported in the outskirts, as trees often fall on the lines and electric poles. Coastal areas too witnessed power issues,” said an official of KSEB.

Peroorkada, Vetturoad, Vizhinjam, Kachani, Vattiyoorkavu, Vellarada, Mangalapuram and Nettayam are the other major areas which were affected.
