The officials of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) have started jotting plan of action in order to cope up with the problems that arise annually with the onset of monsoon season.

Clogged drainage systems, irregular fogging, unwieldy solid waste disposal system are a few vital problems faced by the city residents here especially during heavy rainfall. Ironically, despite repeated attempts of RMC personnel, the problems have been persisting since years adding on to the public woes.

Meanwhile, after the delimitation, the problem of RMC personnel including ward councillors has increased much more in the capacity. Nevertheless, bringing in a few new proposals to get rid of some major hitches especially clogged drainage, the civic body has surveyed the condition of all the drainage systems in 53 wards.

“On the requisition of ward councilors, RMC recently had completed the survey work of drainage systems in all wards. The basic purpose of the survey was to know the condition, size, types and numbers of drain in a particular area for easy penetration of water. Also, the survey was to check the requirement as where JCB machines will be required to clean the drainages and where manually the drainages can be cleaned up,” said RMC Officer (Health), Dr. Kiran Kumari.

Dr. Kiran further added that within a week, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the senior officials regarding the deployment of human resources and additional equipments to be given at different wards for meeting the requirements. “Several suggestions have come from the ward councilors’ side as well. All feasible points will be considered. There are a few wards where extra human resource will be required, after discussing it with ward councilors; these all points will be added in the report.”

At present, 600 drainage cleaners are lending service at the different wards. Also, according to RMC Officer (Health), tender procedure for procuring cold fogging machines will be completed this season as all essential documentation tasks have been completed.

“Through online tender, the civic body has ordered to purchase three cold fogging machines. Technically, three fogging machines are equivalent and as efficient as nine thermal fogging machines. As per the instruction, the cold fogging machines will be operated in morning as well as in the evening by the staffs concerned.” In addition, a few other equipments like bush cutters will be purchased by the Municipal Corporation taking into account the cleanliness during the rainy season, Dr Kiran added.
