Artists paint their canvas with social message

LUDHIANA: With an aim to fight social evils, a state-level painting competition was organised by Navchetna Bal Bhalai Committee in Guru Nanak Bhavan on Friday. About 250 participants—including school and college students and professional artists—were divided in three categories. They showcased their talent on their canvas leaving behind a message for society.
The topic for painting competition included ‘Save Girl Child, ‘Educate Girl Child’, ‘Female Foeticide’, ‘Drug Addiction and Child’.

Besides, on the occasion the committee honoured people working for social welfare.

A representative of The Rock Foundation, Pankaj Jain was honoured for contributing Rs 1.25 crore for the treatment of differently-abled children in private hospitals. Further people who were honored included, Rakesh Kumar and his team of more than 100 members from Parshuram Foundation for sponsoring stationary items, uniforms and books to needy students; Neeru Barhman, principal of Government Senior Secondary School who helped in lodging the FIR of two rape victims; Suman Kumari of Government Primary School, Jagraon Bridge, who works for differently-abled children; Janamdeep Kaur of Government Primary School; Jamalpur Awana, who along with Inderjeet Kaur of Government Primary School, Ayali Kalan contributed for the infrastructure of schools.

The winner of school category was Gurleen Kaur from GNIP School; college category’s winner was Ruby Ratna from Malwa College of Education; professional category’s winner was Amar Singh. All the winners were awarded with cash prize.
