Michael A. Hines, 66, of Lansing, died Friday, June 8, 2018, at Gundersen Health System, LaCrosse, Wis.
Michael Allen Hines was born Oct. 5, 1951, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Herbert and Dorothy (Doud) Hines. Mike graduated from Springville High in 1970. Upon graduation, Mike went to work for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (The Milwaukee Road), which was later acquired by the Canadian Pacific Railroad. Mike retired as project coordinator of U.S. operations from the CP Railroad in 2011 after 41 years of service.
On Nov. 22, 1980, Mike and Catherine Kindl were united in marriage. They had two children and later moved to Lansing, Iowa. Mike enjoyed building Mopar hot rods, drag racing at Cordova and spending time with his family and enjoying his homestead. Mike also was an avid outdoorsman, teaching his children and grandson the love of the Mississippi River and the outdoors, along with the gifts it had to offer such as walleye fishing and deer, duck and pheasant hunting. Mike's greatest joy was being a grandpa to Hunter, whom he helped raise. Grandpa never missed a game and was always cheering Hunter on.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy; son, Jason Hines Sgt. USMC (Ret.), daughter, Erin Hines, and grandson, Hunter McKee of Lansing, Iowa; siblings, Don (Shirley) Hines of Guttenberg, Iowa, Larry (Pat) Hines of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rosie (Don) Miller of Ames, Iowa, Sandy (Wes) Bender of Springville, Iowa, and Terry (Trudi) Hines of Olin, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Dorothy and Heath Mckee.
Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Celebration of Life will be held June 23, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the American Legion in Springville, Iowa, for family and friends. Lunch will be provided. There also will be a Celebration of Life on June 30, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the American Legion, 711 6th St. S., LaCrosse, Wis. Lunch will be provided.
The Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing, Iowa, assisted the family.
