Thane: A six-month-old baby sustained major injuries on his right leg after a portion of the ceiling of his first floor flat collapsed in Mumbra recently.
The regional disaster management cell (RDMC) officials reached the spot immediately and began the rescue operations. The baby, Abdullha Shaikh, was rushed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj hospital in Kalwa.
Santosh Kadam, disaster officer at RDMC, said, “The house belongs to Aaisha Shaikh which is on the first floor. The family was in the room when the slab suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, the other members escaped on time. The baby sustained injuries on his right leg. But the injuries are severe so he had to be shifted to JJ hospital in Mumbai.”
After the rescue operation, the officials evacuated all the 21 occupants of the building as a precautionary measure.
“The building is a dilapidated one. There are multiple cracks on the walls everywhere. So we have alerted the concerned authority to look into it and take the necessary action, added Kadam.
A case has been registered. The baby is being administered treatment.
