Right then! That is a quick wrap up on Day 5 - Windies needing less than 30 overs to take the 7 Sri Lankan wickets. Sunil Gavaskar reckons that this is a sign of the Windies' revival. The Lankans do not have too much time to regroup. The second Test begins on Thursday, 14th June, 2018 at Gros Islet. Join us at 10 am local (1400 GMT) for all the action from that Test. Victorious Windies captain Jason Holder is extremely happy to start the series with a win. He feels that yesterday it was very tough for his bowlers to pick up wickets but still they tried hard. Praises his team overall for the spirited performance. Stresses that he was not worried after Stumps last evening as he believed that the pitch will get tougher to bat on. On Kieran Powell, Jason says that he has a lot of potential and wants him to be more consistent. Adds that he was disappointed with Powell not getting a century. On his viewpoints about his team's performance, Holder says that he will come down very hard on his team for the chances they missed as well. But also praises his fast bowlers for bowling consistently fast and the spinners doing well today.

SHANE DOWRICH HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his first innings ton. He admits that it is a very good feeling. On the pitch, he says that the batsmen had to work for runs and there was plenty for the bowlers. On his own thought process, he says that he just stuck to the basics. On the plans and preparation in general, he stresses on being consistent and praises his coach Floyd Reifer for his continuous inputs which helped him in his Test while batting.

Sri Lankan captain, Dinesh Chandimal, blames the poor fielding on Day 1, dropping crucial chances, for the defeat. But is quick to add that they need to make a turnaround soon. Looks at the positives in Kusal Mendis' knock and Lahiru Kumara's bowling in both innings. Praises the Windies for playing outstanding cricket throughout the five days. On Dhananjaya de Silva's possible inclusion for the second Test, Chandimal hints that it might well be a possibility, especially since he has played at number 3 in the last 4-5 matches.

Now to the Windies' bowling. It has been a while since we have seen quick bowlers taking wickets for the home side. Bouncing the batsmen out, hitting them in the rib cage, then gloves and eventually making life uncomfortable. The seamers picked 8 wickets in the first innings while the last day was for the spinners - this is only the SECOND TIME that Sri Lanka have lost 7 wickets to spinners in a Test inning outside Asia. Devendra Bishoo and Roston Chase being the beneficiaries - the latter especially striking twice in that last over before Lunch, removing Chandimal and Dickwella. Really disappointing for the Lankans. Plenty of bowling positives for Sri Lanka initially, with Lahiru Kumara snapping up a 4-fer but then he got no support from the rest. In the second innings too, Kumara was the only one to be talked about. Slyly, Windies prepared a track which had lot of bounce and pace, not much spin and effectively negated Herath. Result? He got only 3 wickets in the entire match.

In the second innings, Sri Lanka probably smelt a chance when they had the Windies at 75/3 but then Kieran Powell kept them at bay. Then with the bat, apart from Kusal Mendis who scored a spectacular century, there was nothing much to talk about the batting again. They are missing someone who can grind it out in the middle.

The first day probably summed up the situation for Sri Lanka. They had the Windies on the mat, at 147/5 but allowed the home side to cross 400, not to mention the numerous dropped catches. Then the batting did not justify itself either, folding up for 185.

A Test win after 10 years for Windies against Sri Lanka. This is also their biggest win against Sri Lanka in Tests and also their biggest against any opponent in terms of runs, at Port Of Spain in this format!

Dowrich fumbled and then took it on the second attempt. He appealed, umpire Kettleborough took his time but then raised his finger! Snickometer confirms an inside edge onto Kumara's pads. A clinical approach would be to guts it out, fight hard and drag it into the third session. But maybe, they might go for some quick runs and give us some entertainment. Holder's decision to give Chase that over proved to work wonders. First Chandimal played a rash shot and then on the last ball, Dickwella was dismissed. That should probably seal the deal. There is not much batting left in the Lankan camp and there is plenty of time left in the day. 1-0 should not take long, I guess.

Spectacular session for the Windies. They have taken 4 wickets and conceded just 46 runs in a span of 26.2 overs. Gabriel struck the initial blow, removing Mendis early and then the final over of the session was a kind of madness from the visitors.

Full and around off, Dickwella looks to defend that, playing for the turn. But the ball skids on, goes past the bat and hits the pads. Umpire Kettleborough immediately raises his finger but Dickwella takes the review, probably more out of hope. The Windies have been exceptionally consistent with their bowling and the result is that the Lankans have been forced to go into a shell. The pitch has shown signs of inconsistent bounce right from the first over this morning and batting definitely will not be easy. A positive for Sri Lanka is that night watchman Lahiru Gamage has managed to absorb the pressure. However, the home side will feel that it is just 2 wickets away from enforcing a collapse. As of now, the win looks out of the window for the Lankans. They will hope that Chandimal and later on Dickwella see off this bowling. 14 overs to go for the second new ball.

Sunil Gavaskar on air observes the Mendis dismissal once again, trying to find any error in the batsman's footwork. He does not find any. Rather, he sympathizes with the batter. Says that when one is well set, he normally tends to get closer to the ball. Even if Mendis had been on the back foot, it would not have made any difference, opines Gavaskar. However, he adds that had it been a new man at the crease, he would have been tentative and might have played and missed.

Angelo Mathews is having a chat with Roshan Abeysinghe. The former skipper says that the Lankans aim to play positive cricket and try and see whether the target can be chased down. On the plans, he slyly says that those are for the team and he will keep it to himself. On the wicket, he expects it to be very unpredictable and hopes his batsmen will be careful enough. Praises Windies for their bowling attack and admits that the Lankans need to be up to the challenge and play accordingly. Feels that the wicket is not turning as much but the invariable bounce is what is causing problems for the batsmen. On his own soft dismissal in the second innings, he feels himself unfortunate to get caught down the leg side. Is even more disappointed because he could not convert his start. On Chandimal's fitness, Mathews says that he is fine and will come out to bat if needed.

For the Windies, Devendra Bishoo will play a very, very key role. The focus will be on the fast bowlers but the leggie will have to pick up wickets as he will be bowling for most part of the day. Yesterday evening, he struck at a very crucial juncture, removing Roshen Silva. The first job for the Windies will be to remove the night watchman Lahiru Gamage and then keep striking. The first hour will be important.

There is a word called 'Kushalta' in Hindi language, which means well-being. No rocket science - if Sri Lanka have to emerge victorious or prevent defeat, KUSAL MENDIS has to bat for a long, long while. He is 6 short of a century but he has to be around at least till Tea for the visitors to have a chance. Also, it will be intriguing to see if Dinesh Chandimal is fit and when does he come out to bat. He will play a crucial role too.

The track seems to have eased out a lot ever since the third day. There is turn available but not as much as one would expect on the concluding days of a Test. The Windies batted long enough to keep Sri Lanka on the field but the Asian team has fought back hard. Day 4 was not the best of days for the home side, as it looked listless for a major portion. However, today is a new day and we might see a rejuvenated unit.

The Windies bowlers, on the other hand, did bowl well but in patches. Shannon Gabriel once again was lethal with the new ball but Roach did not provide the support he needed. Holder got the priced scalp of Mathews and also kept it tight. Bishoo did get purchase off the wicket and he too was rewarded towards the end. They still need another seven wickets and would surely fancy their chances heading into Day 5!

Chasing a massive target, the Lankans lost Kusal Perera early. Kusal Mendis however, continued on his merry way. He constructed vital stands first with his skipper, Chandimal, who went back retired ill. Then a 74-run stand and a 52-run partnership with Mathews and Silva respectively before the two got out in a soft manner. A lot will be depending on the shoulders of the young Mendis and his captain Chandimal if and when he comes out to bat on Day 5. The former rode his luck along but is fighting it out there. They still need another 277 and the away side will hope, the opener is the mainstay and the rest bat alongside him.

The light has been offered to the batsmen and they haven taken it. IT IS STUMPS ON DAY 4! This game is far from over. But it will be the Windies who will walk off the field as the happier side due to the late wicket of Roshen Silva. Sri Lanka though will feel pleased with the fact that they still have Kusal Mendis out there who is just six short of a ton.

The Sri Lankan skipper though left the field few overs before Tea as he wasn't feeling 100 percent. Angelo Mathews then joined forces with Mendis and the duo batted pretty watchfully and ensured no further damage was inflicted. Sri Lanka still need plenty and they will only focus to bat time for the next few sessions. This has been a good batting stint so far from the Lankans. They weren't overawed by the total they had in front of them. While the Windies will be disappointed with the way this session penned out. The home team played for three overs before declaring and set a massive target. The visitors in reply got off to the worst possible start. They received an early jolt in form of Kusal Perera. However, Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis batted positively thereafter.
