David Alan Brown, 71, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, in Virginia Beach, of complications following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence Melvin Brown and Evelyn Chaffin Brown, of Lynchburg; and a nephew, Gregory H. Willis. He is survived by a sister, Fay Brown Willis of Lynchburg; and a brother, Lawrence Melvin "Larry" Brown Jr. and sister-in-law, Jennifer Daffron Brown, of Virginia Beach. Also surviving is a nephew, Gary Phillips Willis, and his wife, Catherine Vogl Willis, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two nieces, Sandra Willis Godesky and her husband, Andrew Stanley Godesky, of Asheboro, N.C., and Lauren Hilary Brown of Richmond, Virginia. There are also three greatnephews, Gregory, Gabriel, and Gavin Willis; and two greatnieces, Cynthia Willis and Abigail Godesky. David graduated from E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Va., and attended Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. He was a radio announcer on WIRD in Lake Placid, N.Y., for a number of years, followed by many years spent in various locations in California. He returned to Virginia in the early 2000's, where he did graphic design for Geo-Marine, Inc. Environmental Consultants in Norfolk, Va. David was an avid fan of baseball and golf and played both very well. He also liked to write, particularly screenplays. He authored 12 stage and screenplays, and was a member of the Playwright's Center of San Francisco. He especially loved traveling in North America and Europe. His favorite destination was Paris. Many of his friends were people he met while traveling. He also found great pleasure in keeping in touch with family and following the myriad activities of all the children.
