Bavuma honoured to be part of 'sporting history' at Ellis Park

2018-06-10 12:42

Cape Town - Temba Bavuma, said he was honoured to have been part of the Springbok's emphatic come-from-behind 42-39 victory over England at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

The diminutive Proteas middle-order batsman carried the national flag onto the field and stood with the team during the national anthems.

Bavuma took to Twitter, calling Saturday "a day entrenched in our sporting history books."

Bavuma also said he was not only honoured to be part of the day, but that he would remember it forever.

After a disastrous start which saw them 24-3 down following the first quarter of the match, the Springboks launched a quite astounding comeback to 29-27 at the break as England simply had no answer to the cut, thrust and pace of their attack.

The second half was more of an attritional affair, but in fairness, the Boks had done enough to secure victory.

The sides will next do battle at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein next Saturday, with the third and final Test scheduled for Newlands in Cape Town on June 23.
