HYDERABAD: A 31-year-old woman from Sultan Shahi here died under suspicious circumstances in
Saudi Arabia. Family members said on Saturday that Tahseen Sultana was tortured to death by her husband and in-laws and demanded that the Indian embassy in Riyadh seek a probe into the circumstances that led to her death on June 5.
Tahseen spoke to her family on June 3 from Al Khobar,
Dammam and told them how she was being ill-treated by her husband and in-laws. Sister Parveen Sultana quoting Tahseen said how her brother-in-law Mohammed Omer tried to gag Tahseen by forcing a piece of cloth into her mouth and beat her up. "She told us how she was being tortured by Omer and how he tried to kill her," she said.
Omer also hails from Sultan Shahi and had gone to Saudi Arabia to work. The couple were married in October 2014. Some family members said they learnt that Tahseen had injuries on her body which was later shifted to a mortuary. In a letter to external affairs Sushma Swaraj, MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan sought an inquiry into her suspicious death.
Meanwhile, the general administration (NRI) department,
Telangana, has written a letter to the Indian embassy to seek the assistance of authorities in unravelling the mystery behind Tahseen's death and to make arrangements to send her body to Hyderabad.
