BHUBANESWAR: Farmer organisations will observe Bharat Bandh on Sunday to mark the end of their 10-day agitation which witnessed sporadic protests in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The ‘Gaon Bandh’ agitation was called to seek farm loan waiver, free power and implementation of the Swaminathan Committee recommendations which suggested 50 per cent profit to farmers for their produce. However, various organisations in the State informed that they are not supporting the bandh in a full fledged manner.
Navnirman Krushak Sangathan State coordinator Seshadeba Nanda told this newspaper that though they are supporting the farmers’ protest they will not participate in Bharat Bandh on Sunday. Similarly, Paschim Odisha Krushak Samanwayan Samiti convenor Lingaraj said they are not supporting the Bharat Bandh in a full fledged manner.
Lingaraj, however, did not rule out the possibility of some section of farmers in the State endorsing the bandh. The protesting farmers have threatened that there will be no movement of any goods from villages to towns on June 10.
