Rajkot:
A total of 38,538 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 71.47 lakh were seized and two persons arrested in two different operations conducted on Rajkot-Limbdi highway near Sayla and Vadgam village of Dasada taluka in Surendranagar district on early Sunday morning.
In the first operation, 6,156 bottles of IMFL worth Rs 24.62 lakh were seized from a tanker on Rajkot-Limbdi highway near Sayla and the tanker driver arrested.
Police identified the accused as Ramprakash Bishnoi, 28, a resident of Krishnaram village of Barmer district in Rajasthan. “During his interrogation, Bishnoi said that Jitusinh and Shaitansinh, both bootleggers based in Sanchor of Rajasthan, had filled the tanker with the liquor meant for Rajkot,” said Rajkot Rapid Response cell sub-inspector Kunal Patel.
“We had a prior tip-off about the tanker parked at a hotel, following which we conducted the raid and arrested Bishnoi,” Patel said.
In the second operation, a total of 32,382 bottles of IMFL, worth Rs 46.85 lakh were seized from a truck in Vadgam village and the truck driver arrested. Police identified the driver as Kesaram Jat, 24, a resident of Dhani village of Barmer district of Rajasthan.
“More than half of the seized bottles were quarters, each worth Rs 100,” said Dasada police station sub-inspector K K Kalotara.
