Captains beat Loons in extra innings

Shortstop Ernie Clement’s RBI single in the top of the 10th inning led the Captains to a 5-4 win over host Great Lakes.

Nolan Jones scored the go-ahead run on the single after he started the inning on second.

Kyle Nelson struck Romer Cuadrado out with a runner on second to end the game for his third save of the season.

Second baseman Tyler Friis was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for Lake County, which had 11 singles and a double.

The Captains (26-37) tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth when Jose Vicente hit an RBI double, driving in Jonathan Laureano.

The Captains had three relievers combine to throw five scoreless innings in the victory. Dace Kime (1-0) got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
