LUDHIANA: Timely help from two
strangers saved the life of Rajinder Kumar who was seriously injured in a road accident near Cheema Chowk.
While other people acted like mere spectators or were busy in making videos, Shamsher Singh and Mohd Rizwan came forward and rushed Rajinder Kumar to Christian Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Around one month ago Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Durga Colony in Janta Nagar, was hit by unknown vehicle while he was going to work on his two-wheeler. He hit side pole fencing and his throat was severed and was bleeding profusely.
He fainted soon after the collision and he could not even cry for help. People passing by the stretch proved mere spectators or video makers of the incident without caring for the life of the injured.
However, soon Shamsher Singh and Mohd Rizwan came to his rescue and rushed him to the hospital. The emergency staff saw that the patient was unconscious, was gasping for air and bleeding profusely from the neck. On examination it was found that there was a large cut over the anterior part of the neck and the trachea (wind pipe) was sustained a grievous injury.
He required to undergo an operation for repair of airway. The doctors at CMC termed it to be a rare case as the injury was so severe that air pipe was severely damaged and was seen visible from outside. All blood was entering the airway and going to his lungs, making his breathing difficult.
The doctors said major challenge was to secure his airway, stop the bleeding and to repair the airway within a very short period of time. A new artificial airway was created below the cut end of the wind pipe and the wind pipe was reconstructed.
After the recovery of the patient, Dr Anil Luther appreciated Shamsher Singh and Mohd Rizwan who brought the patient and congratulated Dr Navneet Kumar the treating surgeon and the entire ENT department.
Dr Luther said it is important that we should teach children in schools and educate people about saving lives. We should encourage people to help accident victims which may crucial for such patients.
