President thanks HP Government for hospitality

Shimla: President Ram Nath Kovind has extended his warm wishes to the State Government for facilitating his visit which took place from May 20 to 25 to Himachal Pradesh. In a letter to the Governor of Himachal Pradesh Acharya Devvrat, the President has conveyed his appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and the team from Rashtrapati Bhavan. He also conveyed his thanks for civic reception hosted by the State Government and to the Governor for hosting a Banquet at Raj Bhavan. The President also conveyed that his stay was memorable in Mashobra and expressed his happiness to walk along Shimla’s iconic Mall Road and visit to Shimla Water Catchment and Wildlife Sanctuary.

Guv VP Badnore flags off voter rath

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore on Friday flagged off the voter rath designed by the Election Department of Chandigarh. The voter rath will be sent to various educational institutions such as schools, college and especially in the thickly populated areas of Chandigarh to generate awareness among the general public and motivate them to get their names enrolled in the electoral roll before the upcoming elections of Lok Sabha and Panchayats in Chandigarh. These areas include villages of Dhanas/ Malayo, Mauli Jagra, Manimajra, Attawa, Burail and areas like Bapu Dham Colony Societies in the southern sector of the city. The main focus would be laid on the youth who have attained the age of 18 years to get themselves registered as voters in the electoral Roll of Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency.

Damneet Singh Mann bags silver in hammer throw

Chandigarh: Barnala athlete Damneet Singh Mann has brought laurels to Punjab and the country. In the 18th Junior Asian Athletics Championship underway at Gifu in Japan, Damneet Singh Mann has bagged silver medal in the hammer throw event with a throw of 74.06 meters. In the same event, the Gold medal was also won by India with Ashish Jakhar bagging the coveted medal with a throw of 76.86 meters. Punjab Sports Minister, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi has congratulated Damneet Singh Mann on this shining achievement. The minister while also congratulating Ashish Jakhar said that it is a matter of great pride for the nation to have bagged first 2 positions in its kitty.

249 vehicles checked under a drive

Chandigarh: Under the mission of ‘Tandroost Punjab’, Punjab Pollution Control Board in collaboration with traffic police Punjab held nakka from 10 am to 12 noon against the pressure horns and hooting noise of motorcycle silencers. Regional Office, Mohali held 5 nakkas at Airport road and Balongi Barrier at Mohali, 2 nakkas  were held at Roopnagar and one at Handesara, Dera Bassi. A total of 249 vehicles including buses and trucks etc. were checked and 17 challans were issued.

Brahm Sarovar Community Reserve to come up

Chandigarh: Haryana Government will be establishing Swarn Jayanti Brahm Sarovar Community Reserve on 89.368 acres of community land of village Thana in district Kurukshetra, under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, for protecting local fauna, flora and traditional and cultural conservation values of the site. A spokesman said that a project proposal for Eco-Restoration had been prepared by Forest Department in consultation with Bombay Natural History Society. A budget of Rs 735 lakh had been approved for Eco-Restoration of sacred ponds.

58th athletics championship trials on June 10

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Athletics Association will conduct selection trials on June 10 at 10 am at Sports Complex in Sector-7 here to select Chandigarh senior athletics team which will participate in 58th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship 2018 to be held at Guwahati from June 26 to 29. Selections trials will also be held at same schedule given above for Chandigarh Junior Athletics Team which will participate in 15th National Youth Athletics Championship.  The reckoning age will be 31/12/2018. The athlete must be of 16 to 18 years of age. Only bonafide residents/ students/ employees of Chandigarh can appear for the trials.

HP constitutes a committee to boost export

Shimla: Himachal Government has constituted a committee to function as institutional mechanism to boost exports and to enhance synergy between department of Commerce (GoI) and the State Government on all issues affecting the trade and commerce. A spokesman said that Chief Secretary will be the  chairman of the Committee whereas Additional Chief Secretary (PWD), Principal Secretary (Industries), Principal Secretary (Horticulture), Principal Secretary (Agriculture) will be its members.   A notification has been issued in this regard.

Financial help of Rs 84.13 cr from NDRF to HP

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has thanked the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Finance for releasing Rs 84.13 crore under National Disaster Response Fund. He said Himachal Pradesh experienced constant rainfall, cloudbursts and landslides which led to severe losses to life, property and crops during monsoon season 2017. 

High intake of liquids must to cope with summer

Panchkula: With the onset of summer season, Paras Bliss Hospital, Panchkula has issued an advisory to take major precautions of the children to protect from heat stroke in sweltering summer. Dr Sorabh Goel, Consultant Neonatology stated that during summers, kids play more and they need more care and protection and with following few tips parents can take care of their child during summers. Dr Sorabh said, “Kids should apply sunscreen before coming direct contact with sun and should carry water bottle always with them before stepping out from home to avoid dehydration.”

MCC organises awareness rally

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh conducted anti plastic raids/awareness drives in different markets throughout the city on Friday. During the awareness drive IEC team of MCC and sanitary inspectors created awareness among shopkeepers of palika bazaar and sadar market, Sector 19 here. The team also challaned shopkeepers for storing plastic bags in their shops and seized near about 25 kg plastic bags. The team created awareness to use 100% compostable bags instead plastic bags to sell their items.
