Three months after an armed man stabbed Lokayukta Justice P. Vishwanath Shetty in his office, the Central Crime Branch police, on Saturday, submitted a chargesheet in the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate ourt.

The 230-page chargesheet contains the statements of 58 witnesses, and 145 documents. The accused Tejraj Sharma, 33, from Tumakuru, had lodged multiple complaints with the Lokayukta in 2017. He confessed to stabbing the judge for dismissing his petition due to lack of evidence. The accused had threatened government officials and attacked them earlier, the chargesheet states.

Sharma told investigators that he was upset with the Lokayukta for not taking action against corrupt officials despite repeated complaints and, hence, decided to kill him. On March 7, he walked into the Lokayukta office with a knife to get updates on his complaints. When Justice Shetty told him that there was no evidence to warrant an investigation, Sharma charged at him with the knife and stabbed him multiple times.

Following the attack, security at the Lokayukta office, which was almost non-existent, has been increased.
