PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar is likely to inaugurate the newly formed Pataliputra University website on June 18. It will provide the students about both degree and postgraduate level courses, academic activities and publication of results.

“The website will also highlight various courses at each college of the university,” said its vice-chancellor Gulab Chand Ram Jaiswal.

Jaiswal said the university has worked out its academic calendar. “The more than 40 years old syllabus in the state will be modified to cater to the academic needs of students. The university is committed to maintaining quality teaching in its constituent and affiliated colleges and has decided to introduce choice-based credit system (CBCS) at the postgraduate level from the next academic session,” he said.

The VC said subject experts have prepared a comprehensive plan to introduce research-oriented teaching at the postgraduate level. “The condition of laboratory at the Degree colleges is deplorable. Efforts will be made to improve lab conditions in each college,” he said, adding the university would introduce more skill development courses to help students earn their livelihood after studies.

“Only classroom teaching is not enough. We have decided to ask each college to adopt at least one nearby village for its development from literacy and cleanliness point of view. College principals, teachers and students will be asked to visit the village once in a month to ensure its development,” he said, adding the concept of ‘clean and green’ Pataliputra University and its colleges would also be given priority.

Meanwhile, colleges under the new university are gearing up for admissions in Degree part-I courses in science, arts and commerce streams. The centralized online admission process would be conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) as announced earlier, the VC said.
