Mysuru: Members of various progressive associations, committed to the ideal of secularism will conduct a prayer near the
Mahishasura statue atop Chamundi Hills on Sunday, said Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru of the department of studies in journalism and mass communication, University of Mysore.
Guru, who interacted with the media on Friday, said the event, ‘Jyathyatheetha Jagruthi Abhiyana’ would witness the participation of the members of Rajya Dalit Welfare Trust, Ashokapuram Abhimanigala Balaga, State Daily Wage Workers’ Association, Manasagangotri Researchers and Students’ Union, CPM among others.
“We will not pray to any God or Goddess, but instead offer prayers to ‘Janashakti (People’s power)’, which is the soul of a democracy. We will raisw awareness among people about
communalism and
communal forces, which we fear are destroying the country. We will also explain secular concepts preached by Buddha, Basavanna and BR Ambedkar,” said Guru.
Among the renowned personalities attending the prayer meet are the pontiff of Urilinga Peddi Mutt Jnana Prakash, writer KS Bhagawan, Aravinda Malagatti, scholar Nanjaraja Urs, TM Mahesh, Bannur K Raju and FM Kaleem.
On the prevailing global political scenario, Guru said, “The world is ruled, and being ruined by fascist forces.”
On the defeat of former UoM vice-chancellor Prof. KS Rangappa, who had contested the assembly elections from Chamaraja segment on a JD(S) ticket, Guru said, “Rangappa can fool UoM, but not the people of Mysuru.”
