Three injured in single-car crash near Taihape

Two people have been critically injured and another two seriously injured when a car rolled down a bank near Taihape.

Two people are still in Whanganui Hospital after a vehicle went down a steep bank near Taihape, Rangitīkei.

A police spokeswoman said they were called out to a vehicle that went off the road and down a bank on Spooners Hill Rd about 3.50pm on Friday.

A ropes team – police abseilers – were used to reach the car.

Three people were airlifted to Whanganui Hospital, one with serious injuries and two with moderate injuries, a St John Ambulance spokesman said.

The three helicopters that attended the crash were airborne by 5.50pm, the spokesman said.

A Whanganui Hospital spokeswoman said two people were still in hospital in stable conditions and one had been discharged. 

The police serious crash unit had been advised.
