BENGALURU: Kannada actor Duniya Vijay, who had been absconding for almost a week, was arrested in Tamil Nadu on Friday morning by the CK Acchukattu police. Vijay had been booked for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty and helping an accused to escape, after he stopped Tavarekere police from arresting film producer Sundar Gowda in a case relating to the drowning of two stuntmen.

A senior police officer said a special team had gathered information about Vijay who was residing in a resort near Coimbatore. Vijay was later brought to the city around afternoon and taken into police custody for interrogation. Meanwhile, his lawyers approached a sessions court and sought bail and the court granted the actor conditional bail.

Based on Vijay phone’s tower location, the team surrounded him inside the resort at around 8.30 am. He, however, tried to escape from the police on the pretext of answering nature’s call. But the police managed to lock him inside a room and warned him to cooperate. Then, he was brought to the city around afternoon and taken into police custody for interrogation.

During interrogation, Vijay reportedly told the police that he was misled by his lawyers when Tavarekere police had come to arrest Sundar and thus he helped him to escape. During his escape, he took help from his friends and relatives to cross the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border the same night. He was released from the station at around 8 pm. Vijay was not available for comment when TNIE contacted him over phone, which remained switched off.
