ALWAR: A local
cricket match in
Alwar on Saturday turned violent after two teams attacked each other with sticks. One woman also sustained bullet injuries after one of the suspects opened fire.
The woman was rushed to the local hospital while several others who were injured in the attack are undergoing treatment at different hospitals of the city. The chaos lasted for over two hours during which the players and their supporters ransacked the stadium and vandalized cars parked outside.
The initial information indicates that a cricketing tournament was organized by a local liquor trader in Tatarpur area of Alwar
district. “A final match was being played on Saturday. One team had lost the match due to which a dispute arose, two players of two teams had a heated discussion which soon snowballed into a violent clash,” added the official. The stadium soon turned into a warzone with supporters of both the contesting teams attacking each other. The police said that while residents and locals had tried to pacify the players, they did not pay heed and began assaulting each other.
“The situation had resolved in the morning, but at 4pm, one team returned to the area with goons and they assaulted several people. They also destroyed the vehicles outside the area and opened fire due to which a sense of panic prevailed in the area,” the official said.
The police said that the woman who was injured in the firing has been rushed to the hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
The city police have also filed an FIR against several accused under relevant sections of the IPC. “The case is being investigated, we are rounding up suspects and accused will be arrested soon,” the police told TOI.
