BENGALURU: Prof S C Sharma, the newly appointed director of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), in a clarification sent to TNIE along with relevant documents, has denied the allegations against him mentioned in the article titled “Ex-Tumakuru varsity VC Prof SC Sharma to be NAAC director” published in the edition dated May 25, 2018. Here’s what he said:
1. On the allegation that Sharma awarded PhDs to several candidates within a duration of 6 months, he clarified that the registration for the PhDs was done during June 2010 and PhD degrees were awarded to the students during 2013. He said the allegations made are far from truth.
2. On the allegation he was enjoying two posts at a time, one as VC and another as Vice Chairman of State Higher Education Council, he clarified:
“After seeing my work at Tumkur University, the state government nominated me as vice-chairman of Karnataka State Higher Education Council within the frame work of rules. There is a difference between ‘Appointment’ and ‘Nomination’. I was drawing a salary for being appointed as Vice-Chancellor, but was nominated as Vice Chairman without any honorarium or remuneration. The letter issued from the Karnataka State Higher Education Council stating that I was not given any honorarium or remuneration is enclosed. Hence, the allegations made are far from truth.”
3. The Clause 9 says: “The emoluments and other conditions of service of the Vice-Chancellor shall be such as may be determined by the Chancellor and shall not be varied to his dis-advantage after his appointment as Vice-Chancellor.”4. On an anonymous person’s allegations about his academic credentials, Sharma said: “All my academic testimonials are scanned and attached.
