It took more than six hours to fight a major fire that broke out in a four-storey building housing a godown of paints at Ranigunj here on Friday evening. Mahankali police said that no injuries have been reported.
Officials said the flames were reported at around 5.45 p.m. and fire tenders from Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Secretariat, Sanathnagar and Jeedimetla were rushed to the spot. About 14 fire tenders and more than 70 fire service personnel were pressed into service, they said. Since the structure was a G+4 stricture in a narrow lane, the building was not approachable. The operation was undertaken from three sides of the building. “We evacuated people in the vicinity,” an official said.
Municipal Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan monitored the situation. A control room was opened at the zonal commissioner’s office at Secunderabad for effective coordination among departments. Mr. Reddy urged the residents nearby to vacate their houses and move to safer locations.
